Mirror Mirror

Several years ago I used to work at a bargain center that was similar to a goodwill situation.  It was a dream come true because I was the first to see the amazing things that people no longer wanted lying around their homes, and got it all, at an extremely discounted price.  One of my favorite pieces that I have acquired is this mirror.

When I bought it 6 years ago I think the color was gold.  Since then it has been painted white, black, and now gray.

Well- it’s time for another color change!  I have to admit that I am pretty fickle when it comes to color choices, and repainting this mirror is a lot easier than re painting my entire living room (which is coming soon).
So this is what the mirror and mantel looked like before:
And this is what it looks like now:

I’m loving the satin Aubergine color so much I spray painted the tray on my coffee table.

Halfway to the weekend folks!

My two favorite things

My two favorite things in life, you guessed it, are buttons and birds.  So when i stumbled onto the artist Ran Hwang who combines my two loves, it made my day.

She creates large icons using items from the fashion industry mounting buttons, beads, and pins to the walls.  Her installations are beautiful and powerful, and have inspired me to get back into making fine art.  I love 'crafting' and repainting everything in sight, but i miss my studio classes that caused me to be completely out of my creative comfort zone.

Her installations are bold, beautiful, and i can only imagine how time consuming it would be to hammer each pin, bead and button into the wall... i applaud her patience, skill and determination to complete her ultimate vision.

I need to get back to a place where i am pushed to make things that are not my first idea or instinct.  And i thank you Ran for reminding me of that.

Meet Hannah

THis is Hannah.
The most precious baby...ever.

So beautiful, so angelic, so tiny.  She is the niece of one of my best friends and another great addition to a great family.  So since she is already so amazing, she deserves something amazing in her nursery.

Her name:

I painted the canvas to compliment her bedding perfectly, by reversing the colors and floral pattern on her bumper pad.

I think Hannah is just as excited as i am at how cute it turned out.  Thanks Laura for taking these cute pics and sharing your little mini-me with us!

Letters

So yesterday i showed the coffee table reveal, and on it i had stamped a quote.  Well i wish that i could say that i have perfect handwriting and was able to free hand it... but let's be real- my hands are already shaky regardless of caffeine withdrawals.

So my secret to getting the perfectly blocked letters-
a vintage set of typeface stamps.

These gems were found in an antique mall on the way to North Carolina for my little brother's college graduation. Ever since a letterpress class i took in college i have been in love with typeface and fonts.

I have used these stamps for gift tags, business cards, and most recently i pressed them into clay. Now that these mini clay slabs have been glazed and fired, i'm planning on turning them into magnets for the fridge.

Farwell to April!  Hello May!

Coffee Table Reveal

So last month i asked you guys to tell me what to do with my coffee table.  It used to be a white washed pine coffee table that had seen better days.  I took your advice, and thanks to you the coffee table has been repainted and displays my new favorite quote by Darin Lane.

Before:

After:

I also spray painted the tray on the table to hold our growing number of remotes and to cut down on the clutter.  I should have thought of that sooner.
Tomorrow i will show you how i blocked the letters on the table.
Happy Week Everyone!

Melt a Rainbow

Last week Nashville was teased by Mother Nature once again and had another cold spell come through.  Just when i thought that it was already summer i found myself quickly running to grab my coat and crank the heat back up.  So to lift my deprived summer spirits i colored a rainbow.  Well sort of.  Im sure that you all have seen this before with the whole meting crayons fad… but because im 12 years old- i had to try it out!

All i had to do was hot glue a row of brand new crayons at the top of a canvas.  Then i just turned on my hair dryer and laughed with glee as the colors easily ran down the canvas and mixed together.  This project could not be any easier!

Next time i will buy an extra box of the neon or bright crayons to mix it up with the regular 64 set to really make my rainbow pop!
  Come on summer!
