May Top Ten

May Top TeN
1. Community art classes going on at Cohn Adult Learning Center.  I’m pumped about classes starting up and debating between bookmaking and woodworking.
2. Ombre hair.  Going on my third attempt to look like this:
3. Bananagrams- it's like scrabble for the simple minded.  It is perfect for me since i can only spell four letter words.
4. Insert Catchy Title- my dear friend Megan has a gift.  Her ability to catch life through simple snapshots is truly cool.  This is ONE of my fav pic's:
(Tomato Fest in East Nashville)

5. The Help.  After time froze for a week and a half for me to finish The Hunger Games trilogy, it's about time i go back and finish up reading The Help.  Man- it's good.

6. Fish Tacos at Whiskey Kitchen- enough said.

7. Fancy nails- yes please! I'm dying to try this:
8. I’m sure by now you have heard the song “Somebody I used to know’ by gotye.  But have you seen the SNL digital short poking fun at it?  Hilarious!

9. Farmers Markets.  You should find one in your community if you haven't already.  Buy fresh local produce that is in season!

10. 5Ks.  This month i will be running in the Ellie's Run for Africa. Ellie is an amazing girl that wanted to help kids in Africa, and 8 years later has raised over $300,000 supporting their education.  You can join in by running or donating HERE.

Letters

So yesterday i showed the coffee table reveal, and on it i had stamped a quote.  Well i wish that i could say that i have perfect handwriting and was able to free hand it... but let's be real- my hands are already shaky regardless of caffeine withdrawals.

So my secret to getting the perfectly blocked letters-
a vintage set of typeface stamps.

These gems were found in an antique mall on the way to North Carolina for my little brother's college graduation. Ever since a letterpress class i took in college i have been in love with typeface and fonts.

I have used these stamps for gift tags, business cards, and most recently i pressed them into clay. Now that these mini clay slabs have been glazed and fired, i'm planning on turning them into magnets for the fridge.

Farwell to April!  Hello May!

Coffee Table Reveal

So last month i asked you guys to tell me what to do with my coffee table.  It used to be a white washed pine coffee table that had seen better days.  I took your advice, and thanks to you the coffee table has been repainted and displays my new favorite quote by Darin Lane.

Before:

After:

I also spray painted the tray on the table to hold our growing number of remotes and to cut down on the clutter.  I should have thought of that sooner.
Tomorrow i will show you how i blocked the letters on the table.
Happy Week Everyone!

Melt a Rainbow

Last week Nashville was teased by Mother Nature once again and had another cold spell come through.  Just when i thought that it was already summer i found myself quickly running to grab my coat and crank the heat back up.  So to lift my deprived summer spirits i colored a rainbow.  Well sort of.  Im sure that you all have seen this before with the whole meting crayons fad… but because im 12 years old- i had to try it out!

All i had to do was hot glue a row of brand new crayons at the top of a canvas.  Then i just turned on my hair dryer and laughed with glee as the colors easily ran down the canvas and mixed together.  This project could not be any easier!

Next time i will buy an extra box of the neon or bright crayons to mix it up with the regular 64 set to really make my rainbow pop!
  Come on summer!

It's a girl!

Welcome to the world Evie Nicole!
Evie is the sweet niece of a dear friend of mine who i used to teach with.  Once i found out that her brother and sister-in-law were decorating Evie's nursery in an Owl theme, i jumped at the chance to create something special for the special little one.  Evie must have been excited about the Owls too because she came a couple of weeks early!  This was great for all, and gave me a chance to put her full name, birthday, and birth stats on the painting.

I could not be more pleased with how this turned out especially with the polka dot ribbon!
Happy Monday folks!

April Top 10

My top ten things for April...

drumroll please...

1.Fresh flowers. This makes me love spring time, and appreciate that we actually have seasons in Nashville.

2.Bangs.  They cover up my wrinkles.  Bangs are nature’s botox.

3.Zooey Deschanel.  I love her show, her style and her quirkiness.  She’s the reason I got bangs.

4.The closing time at yard sales when they are packing up and just giving away stuff for free!   Free is awesome!
5.Pastel nail polish.  Nothing say fierce like a baby bird blue!

6.Reece’s Peanut Butter Egg’s.  Nothing like a seasonal excuse to eat more chocolate.
7.Actually being able to find my paintbrushes when I need them.  Yay for organization in my craft dresser!
8.The Hunger Games. The movie and book. Both are AMAZING and I can’t put down book #2!

9.Moustache Paper Clips.  Enough said.
10.Giveaways!… seriously people. free gifts. go play an April Fools joke on someone and then enter to win!

one more day left! :)
